Eyebrow tattoo healing stages, week by week
Fresh brows change a lot in the first month. Knowing what’s normal at each stage saves a lot of worry in the mirror.
Everyone heals a little differently, so treat this as a general guide. Always follow the aftercare instructions that come with your appointment.
Days 1 to 3: darker and sharper
Straight after your appointment your brows will look darker, bolder and more defined than the final result. The skin can feel tender and look a little pink. This is the fresh pigment sitting on top of healing skin, and it softens as you heal.
Days 4 to 10: flaking and itching
Your brows start to flake and can feel itchy. Let the flakes come away on their own. Picking or scratching can pull pigment out and leave gaps.
Weeks 2 to 3: the patchy stage
Once the flakes are gone, your brows can look lighter, patchy or almost gone in places. This is normal. A new layer of skin is forming over the pigment, and the colour comes back through as it settles.
Weeks 4 to 6: the healed result
By around four to six weeks you can see the healed colour and shape. This is when your perfecting session is booked, to refine shape, colour and any patchy areas. Some people need further sessions; healing and longevity vary.
What helps your brows heal well
- Follow the aftercare sheet from your appointment exactly.
- Let flakes fall off naturally. Don’t pick or scratch.
- Keep your brows out of the sun and away from pools, saunas and heavy sweating while they heal.
- Hold off on makeup and active skincare on the brow area until you’re told it’s fine.
- If you notice anything that worries you, contact the studio. If you think you have an infection, see your doctor.
Questions
Why did my brows disappear after two weeks?
That’s the patchy stage. New skin forms over the pigment and dulls it for a while. The colour usually returns as the skin settles over the next few weeks.
When will I see the final result?
Around four to six weeks after your appointment, which is when your perfecting session is booked.
Is it normal for my brows to look too dark at first?
Yes. Fresh work looks darker and sharper for the first week, then softens as it heals.
Can I have cosmetic tattooing if I’m under 18?
No. You must be 18 or over. Queensland law does not allow tattooing anyone under 18, including cosmetic tattooing.
Before you book
